This lecture presents new knowledge on the clever way bacteria adapt amongst each other and how it changes our understanding of nature and possibilities to control and use bacteria.
The modest size of bacteria makes most people think of them as simple, single-celled organisms. But just as humans are part of communities that are crucial to our survival as individuals, so are the bacteria. A closer look at the life of these microorganisms reveals a world of millions of bacteria living in organized societies with division of labor, competition, war, and alliances.
