Explore Saksun. The village at the bottom of an inlet.
Every Friday at 12:50 am from June 17- August 26
Last chance for booking is the day before at 9:00 am !!
This tour to Saksun starts in Tórshavn. Saksun is a picturesque village at the bottom of what was once an inlet surrounded by steep mountains.
The inlet formed a deep tranquil natural harbour. However, a storm blocked it with
sand and created the lake you will see below the village instead of the old inlet.
You will visit the farm Dúvugarður, which predates the 17th century and offers a glimpse of
how the Faroese lived in the old days.
Before leaving you will also see the Saksun church built in 1858.
Our next stop will be Hvalvík village. The name means ‘whale bay’ and is located in a valley on Streymoy’s east coast, near another village called Streymnes. You will have a chance to see Hvalvík church, which is the oldest in the Faroe Islands. And we will look out to sea, only 10-
20 meters off the shores of Hvalvík you will spot the wreck of an old wooden ship.
On the way back, we will take the high mountain road Oyggjarvegurin for incomparable views.
