The Children's and Youth House Látrið

Látrið is a modern architect-designed daycare center in Nólsoy, which opened in May 2006. It has spacious and open areas, both indoors and outdoors.

The outdoor area includes a nature and gardening space as well as a traditional playground. Located in the heart of Nólsoy’s natural beauty, we use the village and the island as a play and exploration area.

On September 1, 2009, Látrið transitioned from a daycare center to a children’s and youth house, offering activities for children and young people aged 0-18. Currently, about 35 children and youth use the facility daily.

Látrið collaborates with Nólsoy School on a preschool program.

We emphasize Nólsoy’s rich musical culture. Our well-equipped music room contains various instruments, allowing children and young people to practice individually or together. They perform both as soloists and as part of Látrið’s music group, Bólaband.

We work with history and culture, both in a retrospective sense and by exploring local stories within today’s society. From autumn 2019 to spring 2020, Látrið and Nólsoy School produced the film “Nólsoy, Seen Through a Child’s Eyes”, which is also intended for tourism purposes.

We focus on teaching children and young people how to prepare various resources from nature.

The youth house is open from Tuesday to Friday from 19:00 to 22:00, and school classes/groups with young people aged 13 and up are welcome to visit us when staying in Nólsoy for school trips.
