Get active!

Why not get a little fresh air in your lungs and see some of Streymoy’s glorious scenery at the same time?

An easy 7 km hike lasting around 2hr from Tórshavn leads over the hills of southern Streymoy across to Kirkjubøur, where you can visit the ruins of a magnificent cathedral dating from medieval times. Time it right, and you can return to Tórshavn on the bus! Alternatively, take the bus there and hike back.

Another enjoyable excursion is to take a boat trip from the harbour in Tórshavn onboard the atmospheric old schooner, Norðlýsið, for a 3hr sightseeing cruise around the islands – the craggy cliffs and coves of Streymoy, are, of course, best seen from the water.

Streymoy is also a good place to get to grips with the stirring Viking history of the Faroes – take a trip by bus or car out to Kvívík and visit the remains of an impressive Viking longhouse and byre.

After all that, it must surely be time for some serious retail therapy – Streymoy is where you‘ll find the Faroes‘ greatest array of shops if you fancy hunting down a bargain or two!
