Leikalund is a shop and a cultural centre situated in historical surroundings. Leikalund is housed in a building that once was the only store in the Northern Isles – known as Klaksvíkshandilin. This was during the time of the Danish Royal Trade Monopoly. The store opened in 1838 but already in 1847, a second store was built right next to it. When the monopoly was abolished in 1856, the store continued as a regular shop. It was closed for a few years during the 1990s but reopened in 2000.
At first Leikalund sold CDs, DVDs and books. However, it quickly became much more. Today, concerts and art exhibitions are also held in this fascinating place.
Leikalund is a place drenched in culture and history. It is a place to enjoy a concert or a play, to hear a lecture or appreciate a piece of art while drinking a cup of coffee. It is a place to get lost in time and be inspired. And if you want to bring home a piece of Faroese culture, you will find local art and jewellery here.
